Whatever you do, don't stop

Why do children learn how to answer questions in school but not how to ask them?

We spend decades learning how to answer questions about math, language, and science and not a single lesson on how to ask them.

Why?

My daughter says it is because everybody knows how to ask questions, so we don’t need to learn how to do it.

My husband says it is because we live in a world where asking questions is considered less important than answering questions.

I think they are both right.

But I’m afraid that my husband’s answer has a negative impact on my daughter’s answer.

I’m afraid that living in a world where asking questions is considered less important than answering questions makes us forget that not only do we know how to ask questions, we also need to ask questions to understand and translate math, language, and science into valuable insights and actions.

So, maybe we don't need to learn how to ask questions, maybe we need to learn how not to stop?
